In today’s Warband Focus, we’re taking a look at Rippa’s Snarlfangs, one of three new Warhammer Underworlds warbands available to pre-order this weekend. Read on to discover their fighters, tactics and dirty tricks… Who Are Rippa’s Snarlfangs? In grot society, stabbing your boss in the back is widely accepted – failing to properly finish the job is not. Rippa Narkbad was exiled from a wolf-riding tribe of grots after his bid for power went horribly wrong. Joined by two of his closest mates, Stabbit and Mean-eye, Rippa’s on a quest for revenge, redemption and a really shiny choppa that he’s convinced can be found within Beastgrave. These grots possess strong relationships with their mounts – ferocious, venomous creatures called snarlfangs that are stolen as pups and raised for war by their cruel grot masters. The Fighters Rippa Narkbad is perhaps one of Warhammer Underworlds: Beastgrave’s best fighters, boasting an excellent set of characteristics even before he’s Inspired. Like the rest of the fighters in his warband, he gets an additional, free Attack action with his Snarlfang’s Jaws whenever he makes a normal Attack action, allowing him to brutalise single fighters or savage multiple weaker ones at once. When Inspired, he gets even better, gaining a ranged attack to boost his already terrifying flexibility! Where Rippa is a front-line fighter, Mean-eye is a hybrid combatant – you’ll want to use his Grot Bow to tackle distant enemies while using the Snarlfang’s Jaws on closer targets. Remember – Beastgrave is packed with lethal hexes, so you’ll want to try and maximise damage by using your Grot Bow to knock enemies into them. Stabbit is an incredibly useful fighter for Rippa’s Snarlfangs, using the range and knockback of his Stabbin’ Stikka to bump enemy fighters into position. When Inspired, his Whirlin’ Stikka is great for clearing out multiple opponents at once. The Tactics Rippa’s Snarlfangs offer a twist on traditional elite, aggressive warbands. Where Steelheart’s Champions and their ilk traditionally consist of slow, heavily armoured fighters capable of slaying lesser rivals in a single blow, Rippa’s Snarlfangs are incredibly fast and can make multiple Attack actions in one go. They’re superb for scything through larger warbands and chasing down stubborn objective holders, all while outmanoeuvring tougher fighters. Rippa’s Snarlfangs feature an interesting Inspire mechanic. To Inspire Rippa, you’ll need to give him a couple of upgrades, while his fellow fighters Inspire when he’s targeted by an Attack action, or taken out. This gives you a lot of versatility – if you’re ahead, you’ll be able to transform Rippa into a killing machine – conversely, if you’re behind, losing him is by no means game over for your warband. Top Gambits Rippa’s Snarlfangs’ gambits make them even more dangerous for your enemies. Furious Reprisal, a nifty choice that punishes attackers who dare take out one of your precious fighters. When you go on the aggressive, Savage Mauling is an incredibly effective gambit that all-but-guarantees the death of your chosen foe, while Venomous Spittle is great for wearing away at tougher ones you’d rather not engage directly, like Mollog. Top Upgrades Upgrades are a key component of playing Rippa’s Snarlfangs, and thankfully, they’ve got loads of powerful options available. Boss Hat provides an insurance policy against losing Rippa by offering some excellent characteristic bonuses if you do. Circling Hunter, meanwhile, is essential for the vast boost in mobility it delivers, helping you close in on your foes or evade reprisal. Lastly, Bonded is a great way to squeeze some extra successes out of your Attack actions. Top Objectives As you’d expect, Surge objectives – those are the ones you score immediately – are key to Rippa’s Snarlfangs, letting you upgrade your fighters mid-round with some crucial early glory. Thankfully, you’ve got a cracking selection to choose from, with Burning Spite and Leading the Charge making for great additions to any deck. It’ll be tempting to stock up on these low-glory scorers, but don’t forget about your late-game – high-glory options, like Lay Waste, provide a massive bounty of points and suit an aggressive play style perfectly. You’ll be able to pre-order Rippa’s Snarlfangs this weekend! In the meantime, check out our warband preview of the Champions of Dreadfane, and if you don’t already have it, secure yourself a copy of the Warhammer Underworlds: Beastgrave Core Set today."
